A friendly, step-by-step guide to creating your pet’s perfect portrait.

How to Commission a Portrait

Commission Process

Commissioning a portrait is a lovely way to celebrate the bond you share with your pet – and it doesn’t need to be complicated. I’ll guide you through everything, from choosing the right photo to sharing updates as I work. Whether it’s in oil or charcoal, I’ll create something personal and full of character.
See the commission process below.

Let’s Bring Your Pet’s Story to Life.

  • Get in touch with your name, a way to contact you and whether you'd like a charcoal drawing or an oil painting. You can use my enquiry form here or message me on Instagram. WhatsApp is also ideal.

  • Once we have had a chat, I will ask to send photos – ideally one with good contrast that really captures your pet – along with a few extras that help show their personality. These help me get a sense of their character.

  • I’ll create a sketch from your main photo and send it over for approval. This is where we confirm size, final price, and make sure everything looks just right.

  • Once you're happy, I’ll ask for a 50% deposit and confirm a start date. I’ll also share my terms and privacy policy at this stage.

  • When the deposit is received, I’ll begin your portrait. I’ll keep in touch along the way with photo updates so you can see the progress.

  • When the portrait is finished, I’ll send a photo of the completed piece. Once the final payment (including postage) is made, I’ll post it to you with tracking. I’ll also share it on my Instagram, Facebook, and website (unless you’d prefer I didn’t!).

    • Charcoal drawings are finished with a fixative spray.

    • Oil paintings are finished with a retouch varnish.

    • Six months after finishing, a specialist varnish is recommended for oil paintings – I’ll be in touch to discuss how we can arrange this.

    • Framing can be arranged separately – just let me know if you’d like me to help.

Pricing

Every portrait is unique, just like the pets I paint — so prices are agreed individually based on what you'd like. The final cost depends on:

– The number of animals you'd like included
– Whether you'd prefer charcoal or oil
– The size of the piece
– The level of detail involved

As a guide, A5 charcoal drawings start from £30. Once we’ve discussed what you have in mind, I’ll provide a clear quote with no obligation.

If you’re unsure where to start or just want to ask a few questions, I’m always happy to chat.
