From childhood sketches to timeless pet portraits.
Hello, I’m Angela – an artist based in Nottingham with a lifelong love of drawing, painting and storytelling through art. I specialise in pet portraits using oils, charcoal and pastels, capturing the character and soul of the animals we share our lives with.
My Artistic Journey
The Spark at Sixteen.
Everything changed when I was sixteen and was chosen to attend workshops at the Oxford Museum of Modern Art. Under the guidance of Derek Southall, I explored everything from life drawing to abstract work. That experience ignited a deep desire to become an artist.
Life’s Detour.
My career took me into nursing, where I worked with people recovering from traumatic brain injuries. But art was always with me – a quiet thread running through it all. I continued to practise, take workshops, and wander art galleries whenever I could.
Falling in Love With Oil Painting.
In the early 2000s, I found my medium in oil painting. I began learning with the wonderful Mark Beaven at the Nottingham Art Studio, and have never looked back. Oils allow me to create richly detailed, emotive portraits that truly come to life on canvas.
Today, my focus is on portraiture — both people and pets. There’s such joy in capturing a likeness, but what I love most is the connection. Every portrait is a way to honour a moment, a personality, and the love we feel for those closest to us.
Present Day:
Portraits and Pet Portraits.
“So, so in love with this beautiful portrait. You are so talented. Thank you for capturing Jack so well.”
